National Bike Challenge 2016 results

Kevin and his bike

Team PACCSA finished the challenge period (May-Sept) in 8th place locally and 348th nationally, with 7396 miles pedalled.

Our #1 rider was Kevin Craig, who rode a glorious 3407 miles, followed by Mike Blessington, 1364 miles, and Paquita Txirrindulari, 1874 miles.  Mike scored more points than Paquita because his cycling took place over more days and bonus points are accumulated for each day on a bike.  The picture of shows Kevin and his favorite bike, a Charge Plug with fenders, 38's, and a rear rack, on the first leg of a cross-country tour from Lewes, Delaware to near Morgantown, West Virginia.  Kevin's favorite places to ride are rail trails and canal towpaths, followed closely by lightly traveled rural roads in wooded areas and pastoral farmland.  Since he retired from Pitt he has been enjoying bicycle touring in some spectacular parts of the country.  Road riding in the Arizona desert, particularly on South Mountain on Silent Sundays and Mt. Lemmon anytime are a particular treat.  Riding the car-free part of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, along the Virgin River in Zion, and the road to Rainbow Point in Bryce were exceptionally scenic experiences.

Congratulations to all who took part.  If you missed it, join us next year.
